When Breuer was in charge of the Bauhaus woodworking department, he designed and created a series of stools, which were probably for the school lunchroom. Only two steel tubes (Breuer’s stylistic signature) and a wooden plane (which later would become laminate). Simple, severe, functional and elegant in form, they are representative of the Bauhaus philosophy. The stools became very popular; it’s also possible to see them in a picture of the Walter Gropius’ house inside the Bauhaus of Dessau. Breuer later transformed them into a series of small tables, made in different sizes so that they could be stacked. Polished chrome tubular steel frame. Black or white laminated top.
